"Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable!"
Daniel Webster

Slowly we are creeping toward Civil War.

The two major divisions of our nation, NORTH and SOUTH, are drifting apart at this time - and will until another nation will form: the Confederate States of America! This week, we will begin analyzing the two different divisions, cultures and peoples.

      This Week:
      FLEDGLING! - A Changing Nation:
      The Jackson Era
       [1817-1837]

"The planter, the farmer, the mechanic, and the laborer... form the great body of the people of the United States, they are the bone and sinew of the country men who love liberty and desire nothing but equal rights and equal laws."
      Andrew Jackson

The War of 1812 ended with the Treaty of Ghent. And while it did not change anything radically between the U.S.A. and Great Britain, it changed America! The Era of Good Feelings, James Monroe's Administration, provided not only a zeal of VICTORY and PATRIOTIC SPIRIT, but a lack of political opposition. John Quincy Adams lost respect with his Corrupt Bargain (we'll talk about that), with his political finagling, which opened up the White House to a man of the people - a man who would provide WHITE MALE SUFFRAGE (all the men can now vote) in our nation...

...the Hero of the Battle of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson!

U.S. PRESIDENTS QUIZ  -  YES - there will be another one this week, so be ready to write out the first 33...

OH....and make sure you have your CONSTITUTION in class every day!!!

        This Week:
        HATCHED! - War of 1812 [1800-1815]

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
        James Madison

We did not get to start our discussion of the War of 1812 last week, as planned - so we will try again this week!

James Madison may have lead us into war, but it was James Monroe that benefited during the overwhelming patriotic spirit of Americans following the war - a period we call the Era of Good Feelings....well, you know....we were feeling GOOD! WE WON!

U.S. PRESIDENTS QUIZ - be ready to write out the first 33...
