This Week:
EMBATTLED! - The Civl War [1861-1865]

"I know only two tunes: one of them is 'Yankee Doodle', and the other one isn't."
Ullysses S. Grant
The Storm is here...

From the 3/5 Compromise of the U.S. Constitution to Henry Clay's Missouri Compromise to the Compromise of 1850 to the disastrous Supreme Court decision of Dred Scott, the nation has been bleeding...

...bleeding from the wounds of slaves, yes....but also bleeding from the unanswered question - As a CONFEDERATION, we did not have to stay united - we could have left that confederation any time we wished. But since the Constitution, can a state secede?

And if it does...how does the rest of the nation respond?

Four years of of the most destructive war in our history was the answer - the Civil War.

...the storm is here...

This Week:
EMBATTLED! - The Divided Nation [1830-1865] - continued

"The time for compromise has now passed, and the South is determined to maintain her position, and make all who oppose her smell Southern powder and feel Southern steel."
Jefferson Davis
A Storm is coming...

Henry Clay's Compromise of 1850 continued an uneasy peace that had plagued our nation since its conception - the continual problem never seemed to go away - SLAVERY.

The Supreme Court decision of Dred Scott, the abolitionist movement, including the violence of John Brown, Bleeding Kansas...all these events continued to move us more and more toward the edge of the abyss of war...

...the storm is almost here...

Pathetic Polluted Presidential Platters  - have you learned all the Presidents yet? The game will continue until you know ALL 44 Presidents...

This Week:
EMBATTLED! - The Divided Nation [1830-1865]

"A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided."
Abraham Lincoln
A Storm is coming...

...while we were moving West, the struggle over slavery was continuing throughout the country. And while Henry Clay's Missouri Compromise of 1820 held the peace for almost thirty years, the horrible Supreme Court decision of Dred Scott reignited the debate. Henry Clay once again to the rescue with the Compromise of 1850...

...but the rift was still too deep and too wide. It was only a matter of time that our nation would completely pull apart...or battle to remain a Union.

A Storm is coming...

...but before it strikes, we will continue our probing of our migration into new territory - WEST!
