REVIEW...

We will review last week's TEST and talk about the importance of STUDYING FOR OUR TESTS!!! Many did wonderfully last week - but I could tell not all of you were prepared. I want to slow down a bit and discuss HOW TO STUDY...and techniques to help you not only prepare for tests and quizzes, but HOW TO TAKE A TEST (or what I prefer calling "SHARING WITH A TEST" - I'll explain this week...).

SO...I am providing you an opportunity.
For those who did not do very well, I will be giving A SECOND TEST on Wednesday over the same material (Pre-Columbian America).
IF you chose to keep your same score, I will give you the same score on the second test (SO...those who studied and have an "A" or "B" or the score they like, you will be rewarded the exact same score). You will also be rewarded for your hard work (doing it right the first time) with a free work day - on anything you need to work on for school!

This is your chance to help your grade....but more importantly, to help you learn how to take tests in the future to help you be successful!!!

This Week...or Next Week:
...if we have time we will move on to (drum roll please)...

IN THE NEST - European Exploration [1000-1720]
We will start exploring Europe's Migration to America!

REMEMBER you must have a U.S. CONSTITUTION DAILY. This is not optional....ever!

We will also start learning our First 11 PRESIDENTS - keep going over all their names (first and last). Here's a sheet in case you need another one.

This Week:
LAID - THE BEGINNINGS OF AMERICA [PreHistory-1500]

We are taking a journey through a TIME WARP...waaaaay back to the past, long before people like Christopher Columbus, Thomas Jefferson and Elvis Presley even were born...long before anything "American" was even known.
We will going as far back as history permits us...PreColumbian cultures!

THIS MONDAY! Since last week was such an odd week, being the first week, I will give you some time this Monday in class to work on your reading assignment from last week - you will turn it in THIS WEEK ONLY on Tuesday. In the future, you will have time in class to work on your reading.

WE ALSO HAVE A SPECIAL EVENT THIS TUESDAY...NO I CAN'T TELL YOU...it's a surprise!!!

AND REMEMBER you must have a U.S. CONSTITUTION by this Thursday. The deadline was extended for our new students - bring it daily, folks!

44 PRESIDENTS - remember I told you we will be learning ALL our nation's Presidents' names this year? Here's a sheet I will pass out in class to help you out, in case you lose yours...

U.S. History Reading [permission from the author and publisher to reproduce the readings is on file]
For next Monday - Ch 2-3

NOTE! - the Reading Questions will be due every Monday at the beginning of class! Remember, unless there are "fill-in-the-blanks", your answers must be in FULL SENTENCES!

In case you wish to read ahead another week, the next chapter reading can be found here and the sheet for the next questions can be found here. If you chose to work ahead, read this one carefully - you do not need to read the entire section (follow the instructions). But we will have time in class to work on these each week!

ALSO beginning this Wednesday, you will have time IN CLASS to work on and finish your WEEKLY CURRENTS assignment. I will explain this later in more detail but essentially you will be expected to keep "current" with what's going on in this world and nation. I will provide you a TOPIC each week so wait until Wednesday to get started...remember, no Social Studies homework (unless you don't use your time wisely at school...which will NEVER happen, I'm sure!!!)

A SPECIAL THANK YOU - the Coeur d'Alene Press once again is graciously donating to our classroom daily newspapers so we can get this thing done!
If you think of it, send a letter to the editor of Thanks to the Coeur d'Alene Press! Excellent folk!
