This Week:
HATCHED! - War of 1812 [1800-1815]

"Strike wherever we can reach the enemy, at sea and on land. But if we fail, let us fail like men, lash ourselves to our gallant gars, and expire together in one common struggle, fighting for free trade and seamen's rights."

Henry Clay

Great Britain refused to remove her troops and forts from the territory we gained after the Revolutionary War.

Great Britain was encouraging indian attacks within our western regions.

Great Britain was impressing our sailors on the high seas.

James Madison decided it was time to go toe to toe against our former Mother country...

we are no longer their colonies...

This Week:
HATCHED! - Launching a New Nation [1789-1800] - continued

"No, no, not a sixpence!"
Charles Cotesworth Pinckney
United States Minister to France

John Adams had to stare down the French during the X,Y,Z Affair, an unfortunate "misunderstanding" between the French Foreign Minister, Charles Talleyrand, and our envoy - we Americans do not bribe other nations to stop treating us unjustly!

But it showed we were hatching out of the egg! We were establishing ourselves as a real-live nation!...and the world was watching...

But back at home...

Thomas Jefferson came to the White House with some different ideas about DEMOCRACY that would change us - and bring, yet, more power back to the people - what our Founding Fathers originally wished in the Constitution.
This week we will be introduced to the author of our Declaration of Independence and his expansion of our nation - the Louisiana Purchase!

Keep reviewing the first 33 PRESIDENTS! - make sure you know their names (first and last)!

Remember to go over the "5s" - George, James, John, James, James, William, Calvin . . .

You can also use the PRESIDENT MAP, if that helps you too...

Here's the PRESIDENTIAL RAP song, it that helps...

Here's the sheet if you need it again.

# 20 - Jefferson

This Week:
HATCHED! - Launching a New Nation [1789-1800] - continued

"People need freedom, choices, and room to improve, and people should not pay too much money to their government."
Thomas Jefferson

John Adam's Alien & Sedition Acts caused some people distress on a Constitutional level - but a new President, Thomas Jefferson, would return the swing back to the people having more power - and a reduction in the power of government. This week we will analyze the Revolution of 1800 - and a new sense of Democracy...

SINCE WE DID NOT HAVE TIME until Wednesday to go over the PRESIDENTS, we moved that test to THIS MONDAY.

Remember to go over the "5s" - George, James, John, James, James, William, Calvin . . .

You can also use the PRESIDENT MAP, if that helps you too...

Here's the PRESIDENTIAL RAP song, it that helps...

Be ready to know the first 33 PRESIDENTS! - make sure you know their names (first and last)!
